It plays a central role in:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Heart rate variability (HRV)<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Digestion and gut motility<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mood regulation<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Inflammation control<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Memory, focus, and emotional resilience<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Research consistently shows that vagal tone \u2014 essentially how well this nerve functions \u2014 is closely tied to recovery capacity.<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Addorisio et al., 2019<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> demonstrated that targeted vagus nerve stimulation significantly reduced pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-6 and TNF-\u03b1 \u2014 two immune messengers that are frequently elevated in autoimmune disease and chronic inflammatory states.
